Recognition can be defined as, "acknowledgement with a show of appreciation." The awards described in this brochure recognize Lions and Lions clubs for their dedication to membership growth.

Membership Key Awards Program (M E-36):
The Membership Key Awards Program recognizes the importance of effective membership growth by acknowledging individual Lions for the number of new members sponsored. Each of the 17 Membership Keys is designed to reflect the number of members sponsored.

Year-Round Growth Program (Y RG-1 5):
Certificates of Sponsorship and the Membership Excellence Lapel Pin awards are specifically for the Lions dedicated to membership growth. The Membership Excellence Banner Patch acknowledges the club's membership growth efforts. In addition clubs are recognized for their achievements at the constitutional area level.

President's Retention Campaign Award:
This award acknowledges clubs for maintaining their membership base. Ninety percent of the members in the club on July 1st of any Lions year must be in the club on June 30th of the same Lions year. Death and transfers are excluded. These clubs will receive a specially designed club banner patch acknowledging their achievement.

October Membership Growth:
Traditionally, the month of October was dedicated to inviting prospective members to clubs. Now we are continually inviting prospective member to learn about Lions clubs and become members. The October Membership Growth Program pays honor to our tradition and recognizes clubs for their achievement through acknowledgement of their efforts on the LCI web site.

The Milestone Chevron Award Program:
Charter and regular members who have served the association for 25, 50 and 55+ years (in five-year increments) will be automatically awarded a distinctive pin to commemorate their dedicated service to Lions clubs.

Club Anniversary Patch:
Special banner patches have been designed to acknowledge a club's longevity of service to the community. The patch is accompanied with a letter from the International President.

RECOGNITION OF Extension Achievements

Recognizing the importance of new club development, Lions Clubs International offers a number of special awards to honor the valuable service of extension-minded Lions.


Extension Awards:
Extension Awards are presented to the two Lions, who, in the opinion of the serving district governor, provided the greatest assistance in the organization of a new club. Lions nominated for the Extension Award receive a medallion for each of the first five clubs chartered, and greater awards for chartering 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 40 clubs.

District Governor Extension Award:
The District Governor Extension Award is awarded to district governors who charter one or more clubs within their district. The prestigious pin is personalized to display the number of clubs chartered during their year.

The award is issued to district governors after June 1 following their fiscal year. The award will indicate the number of new clubs formed during their year that are still in good standing as of May 31 of the next fiscal year.

New Club Sponsor Banner Patch:
Clubs that sponsor a new club receive a patch to proudly display on their club banner. The patch is usually presented to the sponsoring club during Charter Night.

Family Membership Banner Patch:
The Family Membership Award Banner Patch is awarded to clubs adding 10 or more new family members during the fiscal year.

District Family Pins:
District governors and family and women's chairpersons who meet the following criteria during a fiscal year receive one of the following awards:

  • One Crystal Pin : awarded to districts that added 30 new family members or one new family Lions club with a minimum of 40 percent family members.
  • Two Crystal Pin : awarded to districts that added both 30 new family members and one new family Lions club with a minimum of 40 percent family members.


United in Service:
Family and women's chairperson and district governors who achieve a net gain of 25 or more women members in their district during the fiscal year receive a United in Service pin to recognize their outstanding efforts.

Campus Banner Patch:
A Lions club that sponsors a new Campus Lions club receivesa distinctive banner patch.

Campus Award Pin:
An award pin is presented to up to two Lions who help charter a Campus Lions club, as determined by the district governor.

Club Branch Banner Patch:
Clubs that sponsor a branch receive a Club Branch Banner Patch to proudly display on their club banner.

Club Branch Award:
Club branch liaisons are recognized with a prestigious pin when the new branch is formed. This pin is sent to the parent club president with the banner patch for presentation.
